3ds Max Workstations Recommended Best Configurations by @Xi Computers

3ds Max is a professional 3D modeling, animation, and rendering software designed for creating high-quality content and virtual reality experiences.

When you are modeling and animating, the software relies heavily on single-core performance rather than a high core count. Because of this architectural behavior, you will get the best performance from a processor with the fastest top core speed. The Intel Core Ultra 7 and Ultra 9 processors are generally favored over Xeon CPUs for these tasks because they deliver a superior performance-to-price ratio. The rendering process demands a completely different hardware approach. The built-in Arnold renderer is designed to utilize as many CPU cores and threads as possible. For budget-conscious setups, the Ultra 9 offers optimal value by providing 8 Performance-cores, 16 Efficient-cores, and 32 threads alongside a high turbo boost clock speed. Higher budgets are better suited for dual Xeon Scalable setups that offer a total of 24 cores and 48 threads. Overclocked systems can also balance these conflicting hardware demands by maximizing either the absolute top core frequency or all-core frequencies. Autodesk primarily certifies professional NVIDIA RTX cards for this software, but consumer GeForce RTX cards actually provide a better performance-to-price ratio due to their DirectX 11 optimized architecture. Both professional and consumer lines are fully supported for production. Furthermore, the software can leverage GPU-based rendering add-ons like Redshift and Octane. If you plan to use multiple GPUs for rendering, you should opt for specialized X-Series or Xeon configurations optimized to handle multiple graphics cards. Solid-state drives are an absolute necessity for modern workflows. You should specifically use faster NVMe M.2 SSDs to maintain high performance when opening and saving massive project files. For enterprise requirements or extreme workflows that go beyond standard high-end tiers, custom hardware configurations can be tailored to specific budget and performance needs.
