Systems for 3D CAD Modeling
Of more
lasting importance, AMD's Athlon processor is clearly faster than Intel's
Pentium 4 processor. The pair of workstations from Xi Computer show
conclusively that the 1.5GHz Athlon delivers more speed at the application
level than the 2GHz Pentium 4. And keep in mind that compared to the
Athlon, the Pentium 4 has a 33% advantage in raw clock speed. Throw in the
fact that the Athlon-based work- station is cheaper, and there's little
doubt that the Athlon offers the best value on the market today. —A.L

Ten Power PC's Xi's 1400 MTower SP includes an AMD Athlon-1400
processor with 256MB of 266-MHz DDR SDRAM, and 82GB of storage space
available on two hard drives connected to an IDE RAID card. All this led
the 1400 MTower SP to a PC WorldBench 2000 score of 242, the highest we've
seen yet for a Windows 2000 system. Xi supplies a Leadtek WinFast GeForce3
board for high-end graphics.

5 Out Of 5 Stars The
Xi 2400 MTower MP ran smoothly through our bench-mark tests, ultimately
sharing top honors for overall performance. Not only is it a fast system,
the MTower MP is also the most economical of the systems tested here.
Speed, in combination with economy, high-quality parts, a good warranty,
and lots of room for expansion, make the Xi 2400 MTower MP an excellent
value. Highly Recommended. - R.L.

February The
unanimous winner was the Xi 1.2GHz Athlon system with DDR--a bit of an upset.
Not only did the Athlon-based Xi DDR MTower SP pound the Pentium 4-based
system at business tasks, it out-jabbed the P4 in 3D
performance, the Pentium 4's raison d'être. You know the results; now
check out the gory details.

Magazine January Based on a 1.2GHz AMD Athlon
Thunderbird processor, the Xi 1200K MTower SP is a speedy and moderately
priced system. This
Xi system either equaled or excelled the scores of the Pentium 4 systems—
significant when you consider that the Pentium 4 systems were running
300MHz faster and using a front-end bus speed that was twice as fast.
