RECOMMENDED WORKSTATION CONFIGURATIONS FOR SOLIDWORKS

FOR MODELING AND DESIGN WITH SOLIDWORKS
The design and modeling workflow in SOLIDWORKS is mainly a single CPU core activity. The CPU clock, the RAM speed and HD transfer rate are all responsible to the fastest possible workflow. Accordingly to the complexity of your models, 32 or 64GB of RAM and a fast (3200GB/s) SSD M.2 PCIe x4 are recommended. An NVIDIA® Quadro® video card is a must. The single core CPU clock frequency weights the most in this performance equation. Using superior cooling technology, we have been safely overclocking professional CAD workstations for over a decade. FOR SIMULATION AND RENDERING WITH SOLIDWORKS
Rendering and simulation are multi-threaded tasks and take advantage of multiple CPU cores. SOLIDWORKS simulations are better supported with eight, and up to ten cores CPUs. For the same class of CPU, the overall multicore CPU power is easily quantified using the “cumulative clock” (CC) formula. A professional cooling technology is crucial in achieving superior simulation and rendering performance. Our latest MTower PCI workstation based on the Intel i9-7900X 10-core, with a CC of 10x4.4=44GHz has proven even faster than AMD® Threadripper™ 16-core (As tested by JPR 09.27.17). In this comparison test, the instruction execution rate per clock cycle between the two CPU (Intel/AMD), gives our Intel system the upper end. Multicore high-clock speed is also a good compromise, when a single workstation is used for both Modeling and Simulation on a limited budget. In addition to the traditional multicore CPU approach, SOLIDWORKS Visualize, based on NVIDIA GPU-Accelerated IRay, can utilize multiple GPU. We support overclock workstations with multiple Nvidia Quadro GPU, optimizing the rendering workflow. Some more complex rendering approaches, like KeyShot are also well supported by our dual CPU Scalable™ XEON® based Xi MTower 2P64X with a up to 56/112 core/threads combined.
